I think that utf-8 is not supported by all abc programs runabc program at : http://ifdo.pugmarks.com/~seymour/runabc/top.html seems to have a complete utf-8 support, and displays simplified and traditional Chinese, etc. I checked it by copy and paste of Chinese characters taken with Firefox browser ...
