Re: ABC converter

Again it's experimental for now but I'm now using abc2xml.py and xml2abc.py from Willem Vree's site: http://wim.vree.org/svgParse/index.html

The converter can now attempt to convert both to and from abc, partwise musicxml and timewise musicxml.

Re: ABC to PNG

And on production of the images.

I don't know what other methods are available but I use abcm2ps. This will produce an svg image directly (see -g, -G and -X options). To get a png, you need to convert abcm2ps postscript output using a program like ghostscript.

Re: ABC to PNG

folkinfo pngs are only intended as drafts for onscreen display. If you want an image format rather than a pdf and can use it, try the svg output. I disagree with you and pngs scaling. Your software may be doing a reasonable job but png is a raster graphic and is likely to get blocky when you enlarge...

Re: ABC converter

I'll class it as experimental for now but I've added Nils Liberg's xml2abc.py to the folkinfo abc converter routines so we can now import (melody only - no w:) musicXML into the converter. The converter should (I hope) know whether abc or musicXML is entered and perform the =>abc conversion if neces...

Re: Interfacing Electronic Songbook to ABC

I see it's a Windows executable. I'm nearly always on Linux. Anyway, I'd suggest you consider the command line programs: abcm2ps to produce a postscript file for viewing/printing. abc2midi and possibly abc2abc from the abcMIDI package to produce a midi and for transposing. There is a postscript conv...

Re: Transposing

Just so you know, yorkiebarm, ours (abc converter at folkinfo.org) is only really a bit of "glue" to run abcm2ps. abcmidi, abc2abc (and ghostscript) from a web form. The clever (and way beyond me...) stuff is these command line programs.

Re: want to use arrows in my lyrics

We (folkinfo) are using abcm2ps (currently v 5.9.5) to produce the "scores". Looking through Guido Gonzato's ABC Plus reference (found at http://abcplus.sourceforge.net/), it seems abcm2ps uses 34 of 35 standard PostScript fonts. Symbol is not one of them.

Re: software for printing abc

abcm2ps should be good. I'm not sure how AbcExplorer works. What output format are you getting, eg. Is it the postscript from abcmp2ps or does it go through something else, eg. ghostscript to produce a png or a pdf? With our usage (which goes through ghostsript), I view the png output as "draft...
