"Swing" notation

Postby Feckless » Fri Nov 25, 2011 7:13 pm

I'm new to this forum, but not to ABC notation. PROBLEM: I can code "swing" notation in ABC, essentially by adjusting the tempo and "hardcoding" the notes as triplets. This will sound right, but is harder to read.

I am wondering if there is a way to designate this in the "Q" field using code that would create a score that would look like what is commonly rendered by commercial publishers. What I mean would be something like: Q:"Swing " 1/4=144 then followed by two beamed 1/8 notes = a 1/4 note beamed to a 1/8 note, both under a triplet, all enclosed in parenthesis.

If this is already possible (in the Q field) I would appreciate anyone letting me know how to code it.
