want to use arrows in my lyrics

Hi,

New member. I am using the lyrics cabability of ABC to produce a 'tablature' of sorts for a chord playing harmonica I am building. I am doing OK just using standard characters (numbers and '+', '-', '<' and '>'). I have been using the online converter at http://www.folkinfo.org/songs/abcconvert.php and experimenting with fonts. My goal is to be able to use arrows and possibly other special symbols.

I used "%%font Symbol" and "%%setfont-1 Symbol" just the same way as I would for Helvetica, but did not get symbols. Here are my questions:

Is this a limitaion of this particular online service?
Is there a better one?
Is there any place where I can find examples of symbol type fonts being used in ABC?
Do I need to download the fonts myself and run" abcm2ps" from the command line?

Any education on this topic would be appreciated. Thanks.

Doug

We (folkinfo) are using abcm2ps (currently v 5.9.5) to produce the "scores". Looking through Guido Gonzato's ABC Plus reference (found at http://abcplus.sourceforge.net/), it seems abcm2ps uses 34 of 35 standard PostScript fonts. Symbol is not one of them.

The standard symbols font in PostScript is ZaptDingbats. You need to declare it with %%font (at the beggining of the file) before using the font:

%%font ZapfDingbats native
X:1
K:C
CDE
%%vocalfont ZapfDingbats 13
w: @ x ^
