aABC - ABC Browser/Player for Android

Postby SteveMerrony » Sat Oct 23, 2010 3:26 pm

I just released my first mobile app - aABC for Android devices.

It's written from scratch and does everything on the device, no third-party software or servers used. The initial version only handles melody files (but does try to handle lyrics), later versions will support multiple voices. I know that it would be easy to contrive ABC files that fail to load: at the moment I am simply trying to handle straightforward real-world cases.

aABC is the first piece of software I've not released as open source (cf. GENPO and EWItool), but now that I'm a 'struggling musician' I do need a little return on all the effort.

Thanks for letting us know.

I've now added a link to the software page - http://abcnotation.com/software#aABC.

Just downloaded it.

Really handy when the brain goes blank and there is a tune to play.

Now have all of our band tunes to hand. next to add the session tunes

Steve. Have also downloaded aABC. Simple, quick and easy. However, I would like to be able to search for tunes in multiple tune files. Is this possible, or will it be in near future?

Thanks

Greg

Yes - it's the next main feature I am working on. In test at the moment and I hope to be able to release it in the next week or so.

For various reasons this took rather longer than expected I'm afraid - but finally done: aABC does title searches now.

Great suggestion! Thanks! I really like the way that ABCexplorer works and the functions are quick and easy to use. However, when I hit play, it usually plays the "A" part until it gets to "first ending" ( as "|1 ") and plays part of the notes in that measure; then it plays about 6-8 notes in the "B" part and stops. Is there a problem with the setup, or a way around this?

I'm afraid I discontinued this software some time ago.

It really needed reworking to work on tablets (it was originally targeted at Android phones) and recent Android versions and I don't have the resources to do that.

It was working fine on phones and also on tablet. Besides, many users paid for this app, so it would be fair for them to be still able to use it after a while ;)
Could you please resend it on the market as it was? As the app was protected, we couldn't save it and reuse our archive so it's forever lost.
