Musical Scales - ScaleCoding and Analysis.

For the past couple of years, I have been compiling a database of all musical scales, and triads, which can be used with each scale.
It might be interesting to discover which scales are used for each of the melodies that are in your database, and explore the geographical and musical traditions, to discover patterns which are common to diverse cultures.

It would certainly be an interesting exercise - though I imagine it could be challenging to code up an algorithm which was able to decide what mode a tune is in.

You may also be interested in Jack Campin's illustrated tutorial on modes and tonality in Scottish music.
