the COLLIER'S BONNY LASSIE 1806 The col lier has a daugh ter, And 4 2 O, she's won der bon ny, A laird he was that sought her, Rich baith in lands and mo ney. The tu tors watch'd the mo tion Of this young ho nest lo ver; But love is like the o cean, Wha can its deeps dis co ver? 2. He had the art to please ye, And was by a' respected; His airs sat round him easy, Genteel, but unaffected. The collier's bonny lassie, Fair as the new-blown lily, Ay sweet, and never saucy, Secur'd the heart of Willie. 3. He lov'd beyond expression The charms that were about her, And panted for possession; His life was dull without her. After mature resolving, Close to his breast he held her, In saftest flames dissolving, He tenderly thus tell'd her: 3. My bonny collier's daughter, Let naething discompose ye; It's no your scanty tocher Shall ever gar me lose ye: For I hae gear in plenty, And love says it's my duty To wair what heav'n has lent me, Upon your wit and beauty. BONNY LESLEY to the same air 1. O saw ye bonny Lesley As she gade o'er the border? She's gane, like Alexander, To spread her conquests farther, To see her is to love her, And love but her for ever; For Nature made her what she is, And ne'er made sic anither. 2. Thou art a queen, fair Lesley, Thy subjects we, before thee: Thou art divine, fair Lesley, The hearts o' men adore thee. The de'il he could na scaith thee, Or aught that wad belang thee; He'd look into thy bonny face, And say, "I canna wrang thee." 3. The powers aboon will tent thee; Misfortune shanna steer thee; Thou'rt like themsels, sae lovely, That ill they'll ne'er let near thee, Return again, fair Lesley, Return to Caledonie! That we may brag, we hae a lass, There's nane again sae bonny. www.abcnotation.com/tunes
