{"id":129,"date":"2010-01-05T17:52:25","date_gmt":"2010-01-05T16:52:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/abcnotation.com\/blog\/?p=129"},"modified":"2021-07-07T07:05:55","modified_gmt":"2021-07-07T06:05:55","slug":"top-of-the-pops-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abcnotation.com\/blog\/2010\/01\/05\/top-of-the-pops-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Top of the Pops 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve just amended &#8211; slightly &#8211; the code that creates the <a href=\"\/charts\">top tune charts<\/a> so that it now excludes recent winners for a week.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->When I was <a href=\"\/blog\/2009\/12\/30\/top-of-the-pops\/\">setting the charts up<\/a> and running a test version I did wonder if they might end up as self perpetuating &#8230; and so it proved. They worked fine when it was just me looking at them, but as soon as I published them, the same tune appeared in the top slot for a whole week.<\/p>\n<p>Now I&#8217;m sure that &#8220;Acano mlada nevesto&#8221; is a mighty fine tune, but I&#8217;m not convinced it&#8217;s the most popular on the website. And what I think was happening was that people were seeing it at the top of the charts and clicking on it to see what all the fuss was.<\/p>\n<p>And so it stayed at the top.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, that&#8217;s kind of the way that the real pop charts work &#8230; only with the slight difference that people actually have to pay money to keep a song at the top. Whereas here on the website, a click is free.<\/p>\n<p>However, with a quick modification, previous number 1 winners are now excluded for a week (with a list of the previous week&#8217;s winners stored <a href=\"\/charts#HallOfFame\">lower down the page<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Anyway &#8230; just a little diversion in this hectic world.
