N:From a 1996 tape of the playing of fiddler Cyril DeVouge, originally from
N:the Douglastown, eastern Gaspé, Québec, area. The tune is cognate with
N:"Quadrille "Laurier" 1ère partie" and "Babes in the Woods (1)."
N:Savidant was a fiddler whose family was originally from Jersey, many of whom
N:settled in the English-speaking villages clustered around the town of Gaspé.
N:Savidant was from York, Gaspe, a little village on the banks of the York River
N:near the town of Gaspe. Cyril DeVouge considered Savidant to be one of the
N:better fiddlers in the region, and remembered his playing for dances at
